Hey, this is Stephanie bourbon. Welcome back to my podcast this week, I am going to give you a short nano arrivo pep talk so grab some coffee and have a listen. I'm Stephanie bourbon and this is the live love creative podcast for female writers with a focus on fiction, screenwriting and television writing come back every week for new episodes. Okay, writers are you doing NaNoWriMo we are past the 50% mark by three days today is the 18th of November. And I just want to cheer everybody on who's been writing every day. It doesn't matter if you have 1600 words, or you have finished your 50,000 word mark. Or maybe you're like me, and you decided to write a completely new novel at the end of week one? Yes, everybody I did that I wrote 21,000 words, I wrote about 3000 words a day. And I just decided to go a different way. It's not that I didn't like the story. It's not that I felt like I couldn't finish it. I just was in my comfort zone. My comfort zone is writing in first person present romantic comedies, and I decided to switch it up. So while I did pass my 50,000 Mark yesterday, which is super fast, even for me, usually I will hit that around Thanksgiving, that's my goal, or to hit 70,000 at Thanksgiving. But this year, I went a bit faster because I wrote a new project. So while I technically, quote unquote, won NaNoWriMo, I am far from finished with my novel, and you might be in the same boat. So I want to give you a pep talk and let you know that you can do it. And I'm not just talking about finishing NaNoWriMo and getting your badge that says that you want although if you do myself and a lot of other people have super amazing discounts and specials for you, if you finish, the link for mine is going to be in my show notes to sign up for my VIP newsletter. But even if you haven't officially one hour IMO if it has gotten you into the habit of getting up and writing every day, if you write 10 minutes, or you write 20 minutes, or you write three hours now, I admit, to hit my super high word count, I've been working out about two or three hours a day of going super, super fast. I don't always have that kind of time how I don't have that kind of time. Right now. I actually am building my writing coaching business, which I've been doing for 13 years, but I'm making it more of a full time business. Now I'm super excited about it. I'm building courses for writers, which again, you can find out if you are part of my newsletter. But this is not about that. But I also have a day job that I love. Right now I am illustrating greeting cards for a small company here in California. And I absolutely love that. So I'm doing a lot of things. And we have a puppy. But I have made the sacrifice this month because I've been a bit behind on my writing. And I said you know what, I'm going to use NaNoWriMo to get back on track. And that is really what NaNoWriMo is about. It's teaching you to create healthy writing habits to get into the habit of sitting down every day and just get the words out. So if you don't finish by the end of November, don't beat yourself up. Don't start the mantra of I suck, I'm failing, I'm losing. Because I've been already hearing that all over Facebook, and people have been emailing me and be like, Well, I think I'm going to give up because I'm super behind. Don't give up. Just do it through December. It's fine. If you don't, quote unquote, win NaNoWriMo the whole thing is it takes 21 days to create a habit. So if you're a day teen and you have written every single day, you only have three more days before you have created that habit of actually writing every single day. So my pep talk for you is this, I want you to keep going and I want you to know that you are exactly where you are supposed to be. Don't look at me or other people or people you don't know or people on Facebook and be like, Oh, I wish that you know I was where they were because I'm not that far. Then I suck somehow I have done NaNoWriMo 17 times on my current profile. I think this is the 15th or the 14th time, but sometimes I forget to report stuff like I'm not really good about logging into the website, but I switched profiles a few years ago. So my point is I'm not bragging It's just that I've done it so many times that I have a rhythm. If I set out to write a novel in a month, I have a rhythm that I use. I also a handout a free PDF how to write a novel in 30 days you can get that on my website Stephanie bourbon calm, it is always something that I give out. It's a great way to draft quickly. The thing that I like about drafting quickly is that I have to focus on the story. And I can't get bogged down with the words or trying to be a good writer, it's really just the bare bones and getting the story out. And then I go back in, revise. So I want you to know that you are exactly where you're supposed to be. I don't want you to beat yourself up, even if you are at 1600 words. And I say that specifically because I saw somebody posts in Facebook this morning saying, like, Oh, I haven't even started. And she had all these reasons. And they were really valid reasons. And that's fine. I felt bad that she felt so guilty about it, I wanted to give her a virtual hug and just say, you know, start today, then if you haven't started NaNoWriMo, but you set out to, and it's the 18th. And you know, there's no way you're going to get 50,000 words done in two weeks, which you could if you wrote about five hours a day. That said, it's not too likely, although I you know, I got my 50,000 words done in two weeks, but I wrote three solid hours a day. And that's really, really hard to do. So I don't want you to feel guilty about it. But I do want you to start creating the habit to write every day, if you absolutely feel like you know, NaNoWriMo was stressing you out. And it's not for you. You know what, that's fine, too. So the pep talk is that you are exactly where you are supposed to be. Everybody is different. Everybody is on this journey in a different way. And I just want you to be proud of yourself for whatever you have accomplished. And if you haven't even started, then you can start tomorrow. And I hope that you will know that you are doing a great job wherever you are, and the world doesn't need your story. So start when you're ready. And hopefully, you will do a an amazing self pep talk and feel great about yourself no matter what. Sorry, I got a little wordy, but I was trying to find the right words and I was stumbling T I'm not really a wordsmith. I'm more of an ideas person and a storyteller.
